Kinja'd!!!

So the recently acquired CR-V has a hitch and I wanted to utilize it for bike carrying purposes. Looking to fit 4 bikes (2 kids 2 adults) found some on craigslist that seem ok but figured I’d run it by oppo to see if they had any insight. Also I’m fighting strep throat so make sure your anti virus is enabled and go wash your hands after replying for good measure.

I have questions about Erie Volvo? Do you have an email or something that I can contact you at or would it be better here?

Here is fine with me unless you’d like otherwise. My step dad is the Volvo nut (owned a few 850R’s and now the v70) and has purchased a good amount of stuff while I’ve only purchased once  so I may have to bounce the question off him depending.

If you like your bikes or they are expensive get the one where the wheels mount in a tray and there is a folding bar that holds the bike down like the Thule T2. If you don’t care about about some scratches and rub marks then the top tube racks like the one you found work well.

Don’t get a cheap one, and/or don’t store it somewhere it will get water damaged and rusty if your garage/basement floods. I borrowed my parents’ a while back, and the amount of axial play in the receiver, with that much of a lever arm on it, was alarming. They made both the mistakes I mentioned above.

Pretty sure it’s a u haul class 3 with a 2 inch receiver but I could be wrong. will have to double check tomorrow.

I’m looking for parts for my 2001 V70 T5 and I want to know if Erie is a good place to look. Aren’t they local or something like that?

Also, if you’ve seen a dark green V70 around these parts as of late with many stickers on the windows, it’s definitely me.

For four bikes you really do need a 2" receiver. I doubt a CRV has that. Also put lots of anti seize on the rack before putting it in the receiver. Take it off in the winter. It will rust in solid.

They are not local they are located in Whitesboro, NY. You can check the Web site its searchable for parts and prices. http://www.erievolvo.com/ .

Haven’t noticed you around though I drive so much I’m hardly HS local most days. Honestly forgot you got the volvo. I’ll keep an eye out for you. I’m still in the mammoth Promaster but not for much longer as I have ran the miles up pretty high and it’s become pretty darn unreliable. Stranded me in Burlington just last week. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/4th-time-in-6-months-1792292348

I’ll keep an eye out for the ProMaster. There’s really not a lot around here, sans USPS vans. I’ve been going to HS a lot lately (mostly because Tijuana Flats, Which Wich, Blaze Pizza, etc.) and it’s much more convenient than going to Beaver Creek or Crossroads.

Totally agree! Cant wait for the new pub style restaurant thats going in at the harris teeter shopping center at 55/avent ferry. Oh that reminds me for any DMV work you should def you the site in that same parking lot. Super friendly and they sell cupcakes while you wait! Win Win. I dont follow Fuquay news as much as I should but know it’s growing like crazy too.

The outgoing Thule tray style rack can be had for a great price now that a new model has been introduced. It can be extended to fit 4 bikes. At 2 bike length on my class 3 hitch, I can bounce my 180lbs up and down at the very tip of ut and see very little flex. It holds onto the bikes at 120mph just fine.
